Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in St Margarets-at-Cliffe
St Margarets at Cliffe lies near the coast between the two Cinque Ports of Deal and Dover and has a charming narrow high street with local shops and restaurants. It stands about 400 feet above the cliffs at St Margarets Bay looking out over the Goodwin Sands where many a ship has been lost. It is here that the cross channel swimmers set off for France in the footsteps of Captain Webb who was the first man to swim the channel in 1875.
There are excellent walks across the cliffs to Dover to the south and Kingsdown to the north. The rolling heathland on top of the cliffs belongs to the National Trust and is known as The Leas. There are many places of interest nearby including Pines Garden and St Margarets Museum where there is a large bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill. Walmer Castle and Gardens are just south of Deal.
