Orpington has good range of shops and amenities and an attractive park to the north of the high street. It was already a large village at the time of Domesday and belonged to the Archbishop of Canterbury with two churches and two mills. It was then known as Orpinton and remained a village through the next centuries and expanded considerably in the 19th century with the coming of the railways. The traditional high street also has a covered shopping mall - The Walnuts Shopping Centre, and good leisure facilities with Orpington Priory, Museum and Gardens open all year round. The Walnuts Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, squash courts and gym.The town is also well paced for access to the M25 and further afield with good links to the motorway network in the south of England.
