Headcorn is an attractive town about eight miles south-east of Maidstone. The area has evidence of Iron age settlement and the earliest written records date to the 8th century. In the middle ages the town became prosperous with the weaving industry and nearby are many magnificent half-timbered houses . Both Headcorn Manor and Hawkenbury were used as cloth halls in the 17th century. Headcorn has one of the straightest bits of railway line in the country.
