Harrietsham is mentioned in Domesday as Hariardesham and had a church and two mills. It lies in an area of the North Downs which has long been settled from the Bronze Age through to Romans and Saxons and in the middle ages benefited from the woodlands nearby. The Saxon Church of St John the Baptist is listed Grade I and is one of the oldest buildings in the village. A more modern addition is the railway station which with the M20 provides good communication withs London and the South Coast.
