Crayford : In Roman times Crayford was an important crossing point on the River Cray and later the Britons lost the Battle of Cracganford here in 457. The village is mentioned in Domesday as having a church and three mills and probably derived its name from 'ford over the River Cray'. For many years the town was associated with brick making.
