Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in Monmouth
Monmouth is set on the River Wye about 20 miles west of Gloucester and is famous for its 13th century Norman bridge and the Monnow Gate, originally one of four medieval gates to the town. The bridge now links with Overmonnow on the opposite bank of the river. The Romans settled the area and had a base called Blestium where the Monnow joined the Wye. 'Monnow' comes from the Welsh name 'Mynwy' possibly meaning 'fast-flowing'.
The town has more fine 18th century houses than any other town in Wales and in the centre is Agincourt Square commemorating Henry V who was born here. There are many interesting places to see nearby including Naval Temple on Kymin Hill and Highbury Wood and Clearwell Caves.
