Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in Abergavenny
Abergavenny : Abergavenny is an old market town on the River Usk about 18 miles north of Newport and the mouth of the Severn. To the north-west are the Black Mountains and Brecon National Park. Abergavenny comes from 'mouth of the River Gafenni' and the river name probably comes from 'the smith' - meaning the ironworks exploited by the Romans. In the 11th century the Normans built a castle here and the town developed with a Benedictine priory of which St Marys in Monck Street is the original church. Old Court is a house which is built into the town walls and dates from the 15th century.
