Dunbar : Dunbar is situated on the the southeast coast of Scotland about 30 miles from the border with England. The Romans knew the area to be occupied by the Votadini and it is thought that St Cuthbert was born in Dunbar at a time when it was part of Northumbria. In the 11th century Dunbar was finally acknowledged as a part of Scotland but was fought over many times for the next six centuries.
In the 17th and 18th centuries the town flourished as an agricultural centre for the surrounding area but as a fishing port the town has since declined. John Muir was a famous explorer and naturalist and today the eastern section of the John Muir coastal path starts from Dunbar harbour. The Country Park named after him is to the northwest of the town.
