South Woodham Ferrers: South Woodham Ferrers is a small town on the north bank of the River Crouch and east of Fenn Creek. A coastal path walk provides attractive views of the estuary.

Chelmsford to the northwest is the county town of Essex and an old Saxon settlement first founded by the Romans in the first century AD who called it Caestaromagus'. In Moulsham south of the town centre the remains of a mansion were found and also the ruins of an octagonal temple. In Broomfield to the north of the town centre an important Anglo-Saxon burial ground was discovered.
