Harlow was mentioned in Domesday as Herlaua and belonged to St Edmunds Abbey with a full list of mill, seven beehives, eight cobs, 43 cattle, and three foals.The new town is adjacent to the old medieval clothing town, now a conservation area, with a market and sports centre. St Mary's church is a Grade II listed building and its former chapel is a scheduled ancient monument. Communications are very good with the M11 passing to the east.
