Harlow was mentioned in Domesday as Herlaua and belonged to St Edmunds Abbey with a full list of mill, seven beehives, eight cobs, 43 cattle, and three foals.The new town is adjacent to the old medieval clothing town, now a conservation area, with a market and sports centre.
