Chadwell Heath is about two miles west of Romford and expanded with the coming of the railways in the mid 19th century. Its station lies on the Great Eastern line with services to London (Liverpool Street)

lflord is about three miles to the southwest and became famous for Ilford Films founded in the 19th century and through being the highest navigable point on the River Roding achieved early commercial success at the start of the 20th century. Romford remains much the larger of the two centres with a complicated ring road system making access to the high street difficult.
