Liskeard was mentioned as Liscarret in Domesday and had a market,a mill and 250 sheep. It is situated at the head of the Looe estuary and is an ancient stannary town. In the middle ages tin was tested and sold here. The town has a regular livestock market and there is a good variety of shops and a range of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Liskeard station is on the London to Penzance line and there is also a connection to Looe via the Looe Valley branch line. The A38 trunk road provides easy access to Plymouth and the motorway network.
