Bury St Edmunds : Bury St Edmunds is an old market town on the River Lark about 25 miles northwest of Ipswich. King Edmund of East Anglia was killed by the Danes in the 9th century and later canonized. A Benedictine abbey was founded nearby and later the Normans developed the town around it. Subsequently the the town became an important pilgrimage centre but little is now left of the abbey. There are many places of interest to visit including the Gershom-Parkington museum of clocks and watches, the Norton Bird Gardens and St Marys Church with the tomb of Mary Tudor.
