Halesworth is an old market town on the banks of the River Blyth and mentioned in Domesday as Halesuuorda with a mill. The Romans also had a settlement here and there are some fine examples of 16th century and later merchants houses. There is a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants and a busy centre with an attractive market place and a pedestrianised street known as the Thoroughfare. Halesworth railway station is on the East Suffolk line with services to Norwich and London (Liverpool Street)
