Beccles was mentioned in Domesday as Becles with a church, market and a manor having 60,000 herrings and belonged to the King. It is an ancient market town once on the sea in the 11th century and now on the River Waveney. Situated on the edge of The Broads National Park in beautiful countryside it is also a popular centre for boating holidays. The town has a good range of independent shops, pubs and restaurants and Beccles station is on the East Suffolk Line.
