Saltford : Saltford was known as Sanford in Domesday Book and belonged to the Bishop of Coutances with a mill. Saltford is a large village on the River Avon and regular buses run between Bath, about four miles, and Bristol, about six miles. There are shops, offices and inns and many excellent walks along the river bank or by the marina. The restored Tudor Manor House with its Norman work is thought to be the oldest inhabited house in Somerset.
