Ilton is an attractive village just north of the A303 Ilminster Bypass about eight miles from Tauunto. Its hamstone bridge over the River Isle is thought to be 18th century. The Church of St Peter has some particularly fine memorials to the Wadham family who founded Wadham Collge in Oxford.
Ilminster is a delightful old market town with many period buildings at the foot of the Blackdown Hills. This part of Somerset boasts a great number of places of interest and some particularly fine houses open to the public. Barrington Court, just three miles from Ilminster, is a beautiful Tudor manor house with spiral chimneys and walled gardens now owned by The National Trust.
