Farmborough was mentioned in Domesday as Ferenberge and belonged to the Bishop of Coutances with 215 sheep. The area has long been settled and it is thought its name derives from the old word for a stronghold found in an Anglo-Saxon' charter of 10th century. Coins from the 1st century have also been discovered and the 'Farmborough Hoard' is now in the British Museum. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there is a community centre and local shops are less than two miles away. Bath is about eight miles away.
