Farnham Common is a small linear village on the Beaconsfield Road out of Slough. It is almost equidistant between Slough and Beaconsfield with the ancient woodland of Burnham Beeches, now a Special Area of Conservation, just a short walk. Within three miles there are three golf courses and Cliveden House by the Thames is about four miles away. Stoke Poges is less than two miles and here Thomas Gray is buried, the eighteenth century poet who wrote 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard'.
Beaconsfield is an old market town with attractive seventeenth century houses lining its streets and there are many antique shops, coffee houses and restaurants. Slough is a major commercial and residential town with a pedestrianised shopping precinct and good sports facilities.
