North Tawton, whilst not directly mentioned in Domesday, was originally called Cheping Tawton and by the 12th century was an established market town. It later prospered with the woollen industry lying on the River Taw with the last mill closing in the early 19th century. The town has a number of shops and pubs and attractive walks by the river.
Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service.
