Honiton is described in Domesday as having a mill with a hundred sheep. Once famous for its lace today it is a thriving mainly Georgian town and remains an important centre on the A30 east of Exeter. The surrounding countryside is some of the finest in East Devon and there are many excellent walks and several places of interest nearby including Hembury Fort. The Allhallows Museum still displays lace for which the town was famous.
