Wheaton Aston is referred to in the Domesday Book and remained a small farming community for much of the middle ages. It expanded in the 19th century with the opening of the Shropshire Union Canal which connected Liverpool with London. The village has good communications with Junction 12 of the M6 about five miles away and some shops and two pubs. The larger centre of Cannock is about seven miles away.
