Eccleshall was mentioned in Domesday and recorded as a small village and later becoming a market town in the 13th century. After leather, shoemaking, and glass making industries helped the town to develop further it was it was its situation on the old Chester to London Road the the town to prosper again. Market Drayton is 13 miles to the west and Newport about 12 miles to the southwest.
