Heswall is on the Dee estuary on the Wirral Peninsula with views across to North Wales. It was mentioned in Domesday as Eswelle and for much of the middle ages remained a small village. The town developed in the 19th century with the arrival of merchants from Liverpool and the opening of two railway connections. Heswall railway station is on the eastern side of the town.
