Retirement Properties Spotlight in Sydenham

Sydenham : Sydenham was originally Chippennham believed to derive from 'Cippa's homestead or enclosure' its name finally changing to its present form in the 17th centruy. By then springs of water were discovered in what is now Wells Park. The town grew rapidly in the 19th century after the canal was opened in 1801 and was given a further boost when the Crystal Palace was re-erected here. The London County cricket team palyed its games here and W.G. Grace practised medicine in Sydenham.
