Stockwell is about 2.5 miles south of Charing Cross and convenient for the city being on both the Victoria and Northern lines and having excellent cycling infrastructure. It developed as a suburb in the early 19th century and many buildings survive around the Stockwell Park Conservation and in the 20th century significant social housing was built. The area also has a diverse range of communities with Portuguese and Afro Caribbean being well represented in the local population.
