New Wanstead is in north-east London close to Epping Forest and famous for the cherry pie. Its name is thought to derive from 'Wain' or possibly 'Wen' meaning a hill. It is situated just off the A12 which is a primary route into the city with access to the Docklands and Blackwall Tunnel.
