Retirement Properties Spotlight in East Ham

Barking : Barking Abbey was founded as a nunnery in the 7th century to be destroyed later by the Danes and rebuilt in the 10th century. Henry VIII destroyed the Abbey in the 16th century and St Margarets parish church now stands on the site. In the middle ages fishing was the most important local industry and this remained the case up until the 20th century. Today the town is a major commercial and retail centre.
