Berwick-upon-Tweed has been England's most northerly town since the 15th century. The Elizabethan Town Walls are said to be ten feet thick in some places. In the Barracks ,designed by Vanbrugh, is the museum of the King's Own Scottish Borderers. The town hall and several houses on the quay are 18th century Georgian and to the south the coast has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.
