Retirement Property & Retirement Homes in Bamburgh
Bamburgh: Bamburgh Castle has one of the finest locations of any castle in England. It is set on a low promontory on the north east coast and has long guarded this stretch of coastline. It became a royal centre in the sixth century, the seat of the Northumbrian kings, and was restored by Lord Armstrong in the 1890s. In the village there are shops set around a village green and the Grace Darling Museum opposite St Aiden‘s Church. Grace Darling famously helped resuce the crew of the steamship Forarshire in the nineteenth century. Offshore are the Farne Islands, about four miles, home of St Aidan and St Cuthbert in the 7th century.
