Washingborough was mentioned in Domesday as Washingburg and belonged to the King.The area has long been settled and an Iron Age shield, the 'Witham Shield' was discovered nearby and is now in the British Museum. For much of the middle ages the village remained a small farming community only really expanding at the beginning of the 20th century. Linclon is about three miles to the southeast.
