Skegness was mentioned in Domesday and its name seems to derive from 'beard-shaped promontory' and is situated on the northern side of the mouth of the Wash. The town was originally developed from a small fishing village to a holiday town by Lord Scarborough and the coming of the railways in the late 19th century confirmed its status as a major resort. The seafront attractions include the normal shops and bars, fun-fairs, and gardens.
