Humberston is mentioned in Domesday as Humberstone and is a small seaside town about four miles southeast of Grimsby. It is thought it takes its name from the 'Humber Stone' left over from the Ice Age.Humberston Abbey was built in the 12th century but little now remains of the Benedictine buildings founded by Henry II.
