Strelley was mentioned in Domesday as Straelie and remains largely unspoilt as it is not on a through road for traffic and has bridleways to the north and west. The village lies about four miles to the north of Nottingham to the east of the M1. During the 16th and 17th centuries coal mining was an important industry and the last opencast mine closed in the 20th century finally disapearing with the construction of the motorway.
Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service.
