Ruddington is an old village mentioned in Domesday as Roddington and today attracts visitors to its three museums. The Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre has a preserved section of the old Great Central Railway line and is next to the Rushcliffe Country Park. The two other museums are the Ruddington Village Museum and the Ruddington Framework Knitter's Museum. In the 15th century Henry VII's army camped here before the battle of East Stoke and went on to win a major victory over Yorkist supporters trying to regain the throne. All the major Yorkist commanders were killed in the battle.
