Hucknall was mentioned in Domesday as Hochehale later to become Hucknell Torkard from The Torkards who were landowners in the 12th century. For many years it was part of the framework knitting industry eventually becoming a commuter town for Nottingham about seven miles to the northwest. St Mary Magdalene Church was originally built by the Anglo-Saxons and remains centre stage next to the town's market square. There is a good range of shops with markets on a Friday and Saturday.
