Jarrow is perhaps best well-known for two reasons: the march of the unemployed shipyard workers to the Houses of Parliament in the 1930s and St Pauls monastery, where the Venerable Bede wrote many of his 79 books, including the Ecclesiastical History of the English People. The Saxon church has seen many alterations since its original foundation in the 7th century by Benedict Biscop. The Bede Monastery Museum contains archaeological finds from St Paul's monastery.
Facilities include estate management services and garden.
