Middleton-on-Sea: Middleton-on-Sea is a village now really absorbed by Bognor which is two miles to the west. It joins seamlessly with Felpham to the immediate west where William Blake used to live. There are further shops at Felpham and safe bathing beaches as at Middleton. The great advantage of Middleton is that there is no road access to the sand and shingle beach because the gardens of the houses lead straight down to the sea wall and a footpath runs along the head of the beach. In the First World War Middleton-on-Sea was quite small and the site of a seaplane base and was largely developed after the war.
