Wigston was mentioned as Wigston Magna in Domesday and is about five miles south of Leicester on the A5199 and the Grand Union Canal also passes through the town. It is is named after a Mercian prince assassinated in the 9th century. There has been much post-war housing development surrounding the old town but a reminder of its industrial heritage is the Framework Knitting Museum off Bushloe End.
