Blaby is about five miles due south of Leicester and was mentioned in Domesday as Bladi and had a mill. The name might derive from the Old Norse for a farmstead belonging to Blar. The village centre is a conservation area with some attractive old buildings including the 15th century Bakers Arms. Local shops are to be found on the old A426.
