Timperley is a village north of Altrincham its name deriving from Timber Leah meaning 'clearing in a wood'. The village remained a farming community until the Industrial Revolution and with the opening of a branch of The Bridgewater Canal new trade and commerce took advantage of the proximity to Manchester.
