Retirement Properties Spotlight in Stalybridge

Stalybridge : Stalybridge is about eight miles east of Manchester at the foothills of the Pennines and the Peak District National Park. The town was once part of Cheshire and its name is thought to derive from Stavelegh meaning 'wood where the staves are found'. When a bridge over the River Tame was built in the early 18th century the town became Stalybridge. It prospered in the 18th century with the textile industry but this eventually declined and the town remains a commuter centre for the larger centres nearby.
