Codicote is an old village first mentioned in a deed in the early 11th century. For many years it belonged to the Abbot of St Albans until the dissolution of the monasteries. The village has several timber-framed and chequered brick houses of which Pond House is of special merit.
The John Clements Sports and Community Centre honours the name of John Clements who died in 1976 rescuing children from a fire.
