Borehamwood was once part of the ancient parish of Elstree close to London and first mentioned in a land grant in the 12th century. It expanded rapidly in the 20th century due to the film industry and continues to grow. Communications are excellent with fast trains to London (Blackfriars) from Elstree & Borehameood taking just over an hour. The A1 is just to the south and the M25 to the north of the town.
