Chipping Campden is an attractive North Cotswold market town mentioned in Domesday as Campedene and had two mills. The word 'chipping' means a 'market' or trading place and in the middle ages this was wool. The fleece was brought into the 14th century Woolstapler's Hall which is now a museum. The successful Cotswold wool towns have left a lasting legacy in many beautiful buildings and Chipping Campden is no exception with a fine Jacobean market hall. Campden House was burnt in 1645 but many prosperous stone houses survive.
