Deddington is mentioned in Domesday as Dadintone with three mills on the Cherwell and belonged to the Bishop of Bayeux. Its name derives from 'Estate associated with a man called Daeda'. Today it is an attractive small town through which the main A4260 Banbury to Oxford road runs. The market square is set off to the right of the main road and has an imposing church and many old houses built of honey-coloured stone.
