Tormorden is situated close to the Lancashire border about eight miles south-east of Burnley in the Upper Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. For many years the area was sparsely populated and expansion came with the textile industry utilising the many streams followed in the 19th century by the cotton industry. The town has cafes and restaurants and is popular for country pursuits being situated along the Pennine Way with excellent walks.
