Tickton was mentioned in Domesday as Tichetone and belonged to the Archbishop of York. The village lies two miles from the larger centre of Beverley, also mentioned in Domesday as Beureli and which had three mills and a fishery becoming a prosperous market town in the middle ages. Today the town is famous for its many food and music festivals throughout the year as well as its racecourse. It is the county town of the East Riding.
