Methley is about eight miles southeast of Leeds set between the Rivers Aire and Calder. The main village was established close to the church and there are several 17th and 18th century buildings in Church Side. St Oswald's Church was rebuilt after the conquest. There is a strong local community with various sporting clubs. At one time there were five coal mines in the village.
