Grassington was mentioned in Domesday as Chersintone and belonged to the King. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and in an area long settled with many Iron age remains nearby. Grassington Folk Museum keeps records of the history of Wharfedale and the Old Hall, part of the 19th century hall, is thought to be the oldest house in Yorkshire.
